Task: The intern will engage in the research activities and the everyday life of the research team. Our current research projects focus on a variety of urban topics, among them suburbanization, inner-city development, socialist housing estates, crime and safety, gender and mobility. The intern will be responsible for preparing the statistical data (including the work with large datasets), working with text materials and research literature (in English), carrying out fieldwork (within Prague) or helping with other activities to support the research team. The intern can use part of his/her time to collaborate on a project of his/her choice (based on the agreement with a particular project leader).
Requirements: Analytical thinking, knowledge of Excel or similar and basic statistics, very good English language skills enabling reading research literature and communicating in both written and spoken forms. An advantage would be the knowledge of GIS. We prefer independent student willing to learn and acquire new skills.
Recommended for: Students of human geography, sociology, anthropology, and economics with the interest of study of the urban societies

Goal of the project: To explore (based on questionnaire analysis) how evaluation of health correlates with demographic indicators in terms of its cultural (education, nationality, religion), economic (economic activity, job, qualification), social (family status) and geographic (country and region of students' origin) characteristics. Specifically, student would be engaged in a questionnaire construction and design and its further distribution among foreign students. Furthermore, s/he would be responsible for recording questionnaire answers, conducting quality analysis from personal interview and finally, editing answers using MS Excel.

Task: Application of alternative set theory on various problems in philosophy, logic, mathematics and theory of science. NTC UWB built and maintains the Library of professor Petr Vopěnka, a mathematician and philosopher, who is famous for his elaboration of alternative set theory in mathematics as well as for his works on history and philosophy. The applicant will have a full access to an electronic archive of Vopěnka's manuscripts and to the library of his published work and books that inspired him.
Requirements: Previous work (thesis, seminar papers etc.) on alternative set theories or in area of philosophy of mathematics is required.
